Alexis De Tocqueville was a philosopher, historian, writer, and diplomat for France at the time just post of the American Revolution and the French Revolution. Both based on entirely different concepts and actions. He is the author of Democracy in America of which he wrote from touring the country in the 1830’s. He was amazed at the literacy of America’s citizens within the country and noted how the absence of military presence was so distinctly different than that of France. Noting the American self-governing population and it’s Christian values to uphold the laws versus being persecuted by Government to do so. I think this quote says it all and is so pertinent today. Think about what he is saying.
“A man’s admiration of absolute government is proportionate to the contempt he feels for those around him.” ~ Alexis De Tocqueville
