City Commission Considering a Homeless Coordinator

Mayor, Todd Alcott and two city commissioners, Dana Beasley Brown and Carlos Bailey, are considering spending almost $100,000 to create a Homeless Coordinator position for the city. According to the 2020 K-Count, there are 165 homeless in Warren County, representing 0.12 of the population.

Homelessness is a complex issue that others –with far more resources than our community –have struggled for decades to address – and still the problem is not resolved. Why do our leaders think that we can solve this problem with a staff position?

Bowling Green has a number of organizations that already address homelessness: Hotel Inc., Room In the Inn, and Matthew: 25 are just a few. Instead of dedicating one person to the homeless, why not develop good policy and enforce ordinances addressing this concern?

This issue will come to a vote soon. We must share the prudent, conservative perspective with our elected leaders. If you are able, please come to the City Commission meeting tonight. City Hall at 4:30 p.m. If you are unable to attend, call Mayor Todd Alcott at 270-792-1488 or email him at todd.alcott@bgky.org.
